Around the world, VPNs are increasingly coming under pressure, from outright bans in some countries to new regulatory proposals in others.
Defend VPNs Day of Action, organized by Fight for the Future, unites digital rights advocates, VPN providers and thousands of internet users to protect one of the defining privacy tools.
Today, Amnezia VPN joins their ranks to support the cause, and we invite you to add your voice by signing the petition at DefendVPNs.com
Why Do VPNs Need Protection
VPN services allow users to stay private and keep their data safe.
- Companies use VPNs to secure remote work.
- Universities require them for access to research databases.
- Journalists and activists rely on them to protect their sources.
Still, much of the current debate over VPN bans comes from age verification laws that require people to upload their passport or other ID to a third-party service to access websites.
This not only erodes privacy, but also creates a security risk — data breaches are commonplace, and users’ data becomes available to cybercriminals. Just this year SentinelOne estimated the number of cyberattacks at around 2,090 per week.
It’s only natural that users turn to VPN services to avoid such risks. This creates tension with governments, which, while seeking to protect the public, propose bans that threaten online privacy.
We believe that together we can find ways to address harmful content without compromising online privacy
Why We Support Defend VPNs Day of Action
We are grateful to Fight for the Future for the work they do. Last year, the Defend VPNs Day of Action united almost 20,000 participants. They raise public awareness, run petitions, involve influencers and journalists in discussions and talk to experts and decision-makers.
Sign the petition at DefendVPNs.com and share it with your friends and followers. The more voices join, the louder the message becomes: privacy is a basic right
